H9 Algorithms - VSig

May 16, 2019 - 09:07 pm

I often read that many of the H9 algorithms are "based" on other Eventide units.

1. Will we ever get algorithms staright out an H8000 (e.g., Glitter Verb)?

2. Or evenbetter, will we ever be able to utilize VSig?

I have 2 H9's and I think they are great. No complaints just curious...

Thanks,

Jason

Alas, Vsig is unlikely for H9.

The difficulty in creating algorithms for such a restrained environment as a stompbox, combined with the very small number of people who would be brave enough to try it, suggests that it is probably not a good idea.

We know how difficult it is to do this from grim experience - imagine how hard it would be for someone without our tribal knowledge (and DSP degrees).

Thanks for the response.

Can you share some insight as to how the "ported" algorithms on the H9 compare to the original ones?

Sorry - it's a big topic. The main issues are:

1) You have to control everything with fewer knobs.

2) All controls have to be "smoothed", meaning no zipper-noise issues.

Trust me -  a lot of work. Each new algorithm we produce needs several months of skilled work beyond the "basic" dsp stuff.

Did I mention that this stuff is not easy ?

If you are seriously interested, get an H9000, or a used H8000 or Orville, and give it a try.
