DSP4000 sampler board Installation

Tools Needed:

  • Phillips screwdriver
  • IC insertion/removal tools
  • Static free work site

Parts Needed:

  • 1 x 254170 - Sampler PCB assy
  • 2 x 215005 - may be marked LG1PAL4 Integrated Circuit
  • 3 x 202128 - TC55328 or CY7C199 Integrated Circuit 
  • 6 x 320000 - 3/4" mounting pillar
  • 12 x 321002 - screw 4-40*1/4 rh phil
  • 12 x 321012 washer #4 internal star
  • 1 x 215041 Sampler Eprom
  • 1 x Technote #74 Sampler tests
  • 1 x Technote #75 this document
  • 1 x Sampler Users Guide
  • 1 x Technote #78 DSP ram tests

Notes: 1) these parts are may be damaged by static electrical discharge and should only be handled at a static-free worksite. If you are unsure what this means, or whether your worksite so qualifies, do not continue and instead contact your supplier for help.

2) items 4-6 may already be assembled with item 1

Steps:

1) Disconnect the AC power lead from the DSP4000. 2) Remove the top cover from the DSP4000, keeping the 12 screws in a safe place.

3) Place the DSP4000 with the control panel facing you.

4) Plug item 2 into socket marked U90 to the left end of the PCB. If a socket is not installed, contact your supplier for assistance. Ensure that pins are not bent and that the round dimple is to the left.

5) Replace U72,73,74 with item 3. These are close to U90 above. Keep the removed parts safe. Ensure that pins are not bent and that the round dimple is to the right.

6) Apply power and run the DSP0 static memory tests as described in Technote 78. In the event of failure, check U72,3,4 for bent or mis-inserted pins.

7) Disconnect power.

8) Insert Sampler Presets Eprom (item 7) Ensure that pins are not bent and that the round dimple is to the left. Note that this MUST be installed in the socket marked ROM 7.

9) If not already done, mount pillars (item 4) to the PCB (item 1) using 6 screws (item 5) and 6 washers (item 6). The washers should be between the screw head and the PCB. Make sure the screws are tightly fastened.

10) Remove the bottom cover from the DSP4000, keeping the 12 screws in a safe place. Note that this is also attached to the motherboard by two more screws.

11) Plug the sampler PCB into J14, being sure that the mounting pillars line up with the holes on the motherboard and that the display ribbon passes through the cutout to the right of the sampler PCB.

12) Using the remaining screws and washers, fasten the sampler board to the DSP4000 motherboard.

13) Ensure that pins are not bent and that the round dimple is to the left.

14) Apply power and run the Sampler memory tests as described in Technote 74. In the event of failure, check that the board connector is inserted properly.

15) Disconnect power, and re-attach the top and bottom panels to the DSP4000.

16) Tighten all screws.

17) Restart the DSP4000, and run some sampler programs
