Hello there… I have a question that I think I already know the answer (a negative as my googling shows), however I would appreciate any info you might have.

I am enjoying my Space a lot, and I would really like to use it on some mixes that I have in my DAW. I am using an old version of Cubase (3.1) and a recent – more or less – of Reaper (4.11) for Win7 64bit. I also have an old version of Ableton, but I haven't used that for quite a while. In Reaper, I have been trying to route audio via MIDI by connecting the Space through USB (Reaper sees it as a MIDI device) but I have been unable to do that so far.

Is this possible, or do I have to do it manually through an interface that supports audio send/return? It would be fantastic if we could apply Space effects on a track by simply connecting it via USB… If it's not possible, are there any plans to incorporate such a feature in a future update, or is it impossible to do so because Space lacks the hardware design of an audio interface? (Pity if it's not possible – it would mean a huge boost in sales)

      Hello,

Sorry, but the USB port on Space does not stream audio. It's only for MIDI, and for upgrading the operating system.

But people are still using Space on mixes!

Thanks a lot for the reply… It's a pity. I am sure many people just own a basic audio interface in their home studios without send/return to apply effects. Such a feature would also make things very easy. Is it possible to be included in a firmware update, or there is just no circuit in Space that could do that?

Sorry – to send audio over USB requires significantly more powerful USB hardware than the 'Factors possess. People think that they are already expensive …

Midi does not pass audio; you need a dedicated audio interface.

Most all DAWs these days provide delay compensation (pretty sure Reapers had that for a few versions) to handle the latency accrued when running external processors through the audio interface.

I guess I have to find an audio interface that supports this – mine is pretty basic (an EMU 0404 USB). Thanks for all the replies.
