      I recently bought a new H9 Max. I had noticed a high amount of noise present even when bypassed – I’m running the pedal into my amp. I found out about the bypass type selection and switching to Relay bypass helped with the noise when bypassed. When the effect is engaged, however, there is still some noise present. It is audible enough to cause some concern especially when using effects like delay and Reverb.

      I also did the input gain adjustment on the app – that is all the way up – and that hasn’t helped. 

      Any advice would be helpful. Do I have a defective unit? I’ve owned the Time and Pitchfactor’s in the past and never had an issue with noise like this.

      The H9 should be a little quieter than its predecessors.

      Try different cables and make sure your guitar is turned up. If those don't help, it could be the H9.

      I’ve made some videos showing the noise. 

       

      First vid is just my guitar straight into my amp with the Volume rolled off.

       

      Second video is my guitar through the H9 – guitar’s volume still rolled off – and into the amp. The H9 is bypassed but adds some noise.

       

      Third video starts with the same setup as the last but with the Effect On then Bypassed then On again. I got this new from Sweetwater.

       

      I tried different cables and different power outlets. I’m using the supplied H9 PS. I had it plugged into my Voodoo Labs PP2+ accessory power input and then tried straight into a wall plug for these videos. The H9 performed the same in both power options.

      Is it connected to USB?

       

      And- you mentioned your input gain was ALL THE WAY UP… that seems like maybe a concern. If it is at +18 that might be it.

      Also.. does you input meter show anything with your guitar turned down? Your Output meter?

      No connected to USB.

      Changing the Input gain does nothing.

      The output meter shows nothing.

      Also the patch volumes are all set to stock 0db

      The In/Out meters don’t show anything.

      To clarify regarding a previous post about using the Voodoo Labs PP2+ – I wasn’t using the PP2+ to power it via the DC outputs, rather I was using the 2 prong input on the rear of the PP2+ with the supplied Eventide PS.

      Looking at your video, I hear mainly hum and dimmer-type noise. Since you don't play the guitar in these videos, it's hard to judge the sound levels.

      But, there is not much we can do remotely. If you are convinced the H9 is at fault you should send it back, or contact support@eventide.com to send it in to be checked out.

      I mean, did you hear the increase in noise A. fromt fromt guitar straight in, then to into the H9 – bypassed? And then the immense addition of noise when the effect is On. It makes most effects when used in more quient or calmy circumstances unusable cause of the consant his. As I said I’ve owned the Timefactor, Pitchfactor, and I forgot the Space briefly and don’t recall that level of background noise when the Effect was engaged.

      I’ll contact Sweetwater and ask for a refund.

      Maybe have them swap it?

      It certainly is not an inherently noisy device. I am pretty OCD about buzzing.. and I get a clean signal. SO maybe you got a lemon. 

       

      That said- in general…most noise problems are external . Guitars and pedals tend to PICK UP interference.. not generate it. 

      Isolated power supplies can help. But only rarely is it a pedal with some inherent defect.

      I also tried doing a factory reset and that didn’t help.

      Yeah, I’m going to send it back for another. Hopefully that was the issue.

      The hum sounds like a ground loop to me.

      I have a similar problem. I just got the H9 max and I use it with my Nord Electro 5d keyboard. On certain effects algorithms, the hiss is quite loud. Not sure why this is.
