I just got the knife drop and im trying to figure out how to switch between the presets and use an expression pedal too. Does anyone have this setup? Eventides YouTube short shows it but now how to connect it. I just want to order the right stuff for it and do it once.
Thanks

Hello,
Sorry this is not possible. You must choose to have either an expression pedal, or an aux switch to change the presets. It cannot be both.
If you use a MIDI controller, you can utilize both the preset switching and expression pedal control.

I’m confused, how does it work in this video?

This video demonstrates using the expression pedal connected to adjust a parameter, the aux switch is not being used.
The expression pedal jack settings are described in the QRG here: https://cdn.eventideaudio.com/uploads/2024/10/Knife-Drop-QRG.pdf
If you’d like to use the expression pedal and also change presets, you’ll need to use a MIDI controller. Let me know if you’d like any suggestions.

Thanks for clarifying. Much appreciated. I’d love to know your suggestion of a MIDI controller. Especially for someone who has never used on. thanks!

You’re welcome.
Do you plan on using many guitar pedals that are MIDI capable? There are more complex controllers that can control everything on your board and act as the “brain” of your rig.
For a simple place to start, either of the two below would be a good choice for a small and effective controller:
https://www.morningstar.io/mc3
https://www.disasterareadesigns.com/shop/p/midi-baby-3
Both of these controllers have an expression pedal input, so you would connect the expression pedal to the MIDI controller, and then connect the MIDI controller to the Knife Drop. You can then map your parameters to the expression pedal, and use the footswitches to load up presets.
You could also program the controller to perform the other functions on the pedal, such as turning the octave effect on/off or bypassing the pedal. You may want to consider a MIDI controller with more than 3 footswitches if you plan on using the controller for more than just the preset selection.
I’d suggest looking on youtube for some tutorials of the above MIDI controllers to get a better idea of what they are capable of. There is a lot you can do with MIDI.

This is all very helpful, but also very eye-opening since it’s a new world to me. I really love the sounds of this pedal, so I’m going to explore it, but I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t daunted. Right now, I think it’s my only MIDI-capable pedal.

Do you know how to configure the meidi baby 3 gen 4 to acend and decend the programs. i can make the pedal decend through the programs but i don’t know the syntax to reverse it back through the presets.

Sorry, I don’t have that information since I don’t own one of those controllers. You may contact Disaster Area support and they can help you there.
It looks like you want to send a PC message with “count and send” instead of a specific PC value, but this is just a guess on my part.

…help of the kind folks at Disaster Area…
They have excellent customer service. Glad you got it up & working. There’s a great deal that can be done with a MIDI Baby 3. So much, that it can be difficult to sort through all of the parameters in the online editor.

Hi there !
I’m trying to incremant/decremant preset via the hotone ampero control, but it doesn’t have a “count and sent” mode. Does anyone knows how to do the same with momentary cc messages ?
Thanks !

Knife Drop will only change presets if it receives a Program Change message. A CC message will not change presets on Knife Drop, unless you use a device to convert CC to PC messages.
I just had a quick look at the Ampero Control manual and do not see any information for PC increment/decrement messages. I would contact their support to get a better answer if this is possible.

I’m thinking you could use ‘Inc + Load’ and ‘Dec + Load’ from the Global Mapping Chart (unless you just want them cued up)?

i saw this video with the hotone and the mx5 headrush, and i was wondering if i could do the same with the knife drop.

It looks like the MIDI CCs are being used to load banks on the MX5, but I’m really not sure what is happening here as I am not familiar with these products.
MIDI CC messages will not change presets on Knife Drop. The MIDI implementation on Knife Drop is very simple; PC messages will load the various presets, and CC messages will changes the parameter values.
Please contact Hotone if you need assistance programming their products.
