Hey,
So i bought an H90 in july and i love it but im trying to get an expression pedal set up with it and im having issues, im hoping i can get some help here.
I know the EV-5 is a cheap expression pedal and meant for keyboards but people say it works with the H90 and i wasn’t ready to buy a “real” expression pedal yet, I have an Ev-5 laying around that i have no issue working with my Boss RV-500 and other pedals, but on the H90 it seems to want to be both a volume AND control the parameter i set it to control.
So i set it up to control the delay time on my program and when it works, but the problem is no matter what i do it also controls the volume output, does anyone know how to stop this? It doesn’t matter what the pot on the pedal is set to, it wont stop control volume in addition to the chosen parameter and i have not ever set it to control output.
I should also add it by default controls volume when nothing is assigned to it, and then when you assign a parameter it controls BOTH the volume and the parameter, i want to stop it from controling the volume completely.
The pedal works, in calibration mode it reads 0-100 from heel to toe.
This pedal is only a stop gap as i plan on buying an Ev-30, but in the meantime can the EV-5 work the way i intend to? or is it a lost cause?
Thank you in advance

Sounds like you have one of the Gains under Global Control. Scroll down to the bottom of this link to the Pedal Control section [ 7.1 Global ] for the procedure.
Run through the options on the Parameters side, and see if anything is assigned as a Ctl Source.
Nothing wrong or cheap about the EV-5s. I have a couple here still going strong after decades of abuse.

I checked it out and it appears thats not the issue. The global control source is set to off.
Thank you for the link though. I dont understand whats happening. The pedal works fine on my RV-500 and DD-200.

I suppose the only place left to look is at the Program level.
Does this happen on every Program?
- If its just one, which Program?
Are you using H90 Control?
- If so, do you see any other parameters ‘moving’?
“Volume” can be adjusted in many places.
- Do you know which one of the Gains or controls seem to be mapped to expression?

Correct, every program.
No, my music room isn’t near my computer. I only used control once, when i got the pedal to update and get stick tape, other wise the unit is factory fresh.
When i go in the global menu and go through all the assigns nothing is else is shown to be controlled by the expression pedal.

Well, you’ve got me stumped. I have another thought, in the spirit of diagnostics by remote control. It won’t solve the issue, but will help to narrow it down.
I assume that you have the EV-5 plugged into the EXP/CTL jack #1 in the back of the H90. Switch it over to the #2 jack. Go ahead & re-calibrate in System settings for EXP2.
Now try mapping the Program delay time to expression, and see if it also has the volume adjustment issue you were hearing. Just remember that you have to ‘drop down’ to assign to EXP2, or use the LEARN mapping function.

I already did this, and all sound was muted regardless of position on the expression pedal.

Sorry to hear you are having issues.
Using the H90 Control app would be the best way to troubleshoot the issue since you can see many parameters at once.
If you can connect to your computer and then move the expression pedal, you can see what parameters are mapped to the expression pedal. It has to be mapped to either the input/output gains of a Program, or the Global input/output gains.
It’d be best to email support@eventideaudio.com with a short video that demonstrates the issue, and showing the parameters being adjusted in the H90 Control app.
You could also try loading an INIT Program which will have no mappings be default and see what happens then.
