I scoured the forums and not sure it’s been any help.
I’ve used th mixing link at home and when I tried to use it live the white noise was unbearable and had to disconnect. Is it a bad unit or is this just th amount of self noise it adds.
Setup:
I’m just connecting a mixing link to a mic and xlr out to amp. Amp is a Roland Cube. I also ran it through a mixer to a PA system which only amplified the problem.
Mics. SHURE KSM9 with phantom. And telfunken m80 without phantom.
No effects loop. This is just the unit to remove any issues.
Power is a cioks Sol.
Unit is set to high gain (button out) as directed by the manual.
Rear Dip is set to DI low level output.
Gain on the dial is set to zero.
Using these settings volume is a bit low. Hiss I noticeable but not overwhelming. Cranking volume on the amp or using more gain on the ML to get the volume louder makes the hiss unbearable.
Now if I remove the mixing link from the chain I can crank the amp volume to the max with no white noise. Eventually feedback but dead silent otherwise.
I’ve tried the low gain setting which of course makes the hiss go away but then there’s no volume. I increase the gain to get the output to a point where it would be equivalent to the mixing link NOT in the chain and…. Hiss.
Ground lift does nothing. This isn’t a ground lift hum.
Open to ideas. Would love to use my h90 live but this just isn’t usable. If it’s a bad unit I’ll buy another one I guess and try. But sounds like this is pretty common.
