Howdy,
So I’ve owned a H90 since last year and I love it. I’m curious about different ways people route this beast of a pedal. Firstly, I mostly use it on a pedalboard as I’m trying to get a new band out and gigging but I also use it in my studio when I work on film music.
I’m currently away from home on a film shoot and I’ve taken my guitar, an Apollo Twin X interface and also my H90. I’m currently trying out a few Neural DSP guitar amp/cab plugins for convenience (absolutely loving the Soldano SLO100 that I started trying last night) and I’m finding it quite interesting going back to relying on an amp (all-be-it virtual) for overdriven and distorted tones instead of what I usually do (clean amp channel and use pedals). Its led me to think about routing the H90.
Currently I have guitar plugged into the H90 input 1 and I have H90 outputs 1 + 2 going into the line 1 + 2 inputs of the Apollo Twin X. I’m aware doing this makes the H90 completely front of the amp and its got me wondering about having the H90 spacial effects such as Reverbs and Delays routed so they are being used as a send/return type scenario (such as how you would in rack based FX units in a studio or even how you use FX loops on amps that have this) and whether its possible to have all the H90 FX such as pitch shifting/synth/overdrives/etc so they are front of the amp? WHen I’m at home, my pedalboard has a Boss ES8 switcher to switch between pedals and I’m planning on having a second amp and trying to figure out how to have one amp dealing with bread and butter guitar tones but have the second amp to deal with the H90 synth sounds I love (and having the option to blend both bread and butter and synth sounds using both amps – possibilities are endless with a switcher).
Just wondering how people route their H90 as I feel that having the H9 all before the amp is a bit of a waste considering what the thing can actually do!
Thanks
Jono

I previously used 2 H90s… 1 H90 before a stereo pair of Synergy Soldano preamps, and 1 H90 after. That sounded glorious.
If I just had 1 H90, I would prefer it after the amp.
Leon Todd has a video on using a Fractal AM4 with an H90 after it. That a minimalist but competent live rig.
Currently I use a Fractal Axe3 with a Soldano X88ir in one loop and an H90 in another loop… so I can “route” (inside the Fractal) what goes where. I almost always put the H90 at the end of the chain.
Anyway, there are 100 ways to use the H90 in a guitar rig.
It sounds like you know what you’re doing, so I would just experiment and do what sounds best to you.

I use my H90 in dual routing mode, putting my amp in what’s effectively the FX loop of the H90, so i can choose some programs to go in front of my amp, some to go after, and quite a few i use have one algorithm in front and one after. I find this the most versatile.
