For MIDI, perhaps look at how Midi Ox operates – Id on't know how useful it'd be, but it's a start. Something like python might have a MIDI related module? You probably know loads more about that sort of stuff than me, so if I talkingrubbish, just ignore me! I was also looking into Visual Basic, see if that has anything useful.
