Yes, a Core says Core on its display at power up. I think a Standard may just say H9 on its screen at start-up, but in any case it will be obvious if its a Core.
When you register an H9 to your account, yes, it will have 9 algorithms when you register it. The 9 algorithms are described on the H9 product page:
