Thought I’d give this another go. OK…
If I place the H9 MAX approx 1m away from the Macbook Pro, the Mac will see it but complain “…due to an error (but will not tell the user why, just to tempt me to start punching/kicking”. But, if I place the H9 MAX directly on top of the bloody Macbook, it will pair via Bluetooth. If I then move the H9 1m away (after pairing via Bluetooth), the H9 MAX will still respond to H9 Control. Figure that one out!
