Hello –
Misha does transmit MIDI from its MIDI Out jack and yes, this can be sent to your computer and Logic Pro. You will need a two components to make this happen.
1 . Type “A” 3.5 mm TRS male to 5 pin DIN female connector (included with Misha)
Your Misha comes with a short converter cable that you where you can plug one end into the MIDI out jack, so that the MIDI now is being sent to a female 5 pin DIN connection. (Just to explain: the Eurorack world uses 3.5 mm TRS connectors for MIDI, whereas the standard elsewhere has always been a somewhat larger 5 pin DIN. )
2. USB-to-MIDI converter (not included with Misha)
You will now need to convert this signal to USB in order to connect to your laptop. You are correct that many audio interfaces include a MIDI converter; however, it is not necessary to have an audio interface. All that is required is a MIDI-to-USB converter, such as this one:
https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/922801-REG/iconnectivity_midi_01_mio_1_in_1_out.html
(I’ve seen btw some converters on Amazon that lost data, so make sure you get a decent one.)
And btw It’s possible that by now there exists a cable that does #1 and #2 in one go, but in a very quick search just now I didn’t see one.
With those two pieces of equipment, you can send MIDI into your laptop. Once you plug your usb-to-MIDI converter into the laptop (let’s say you do get the “Mio”), then in Logic Pro you will set the MIDI input to be “Mio”. (If you are using a MIDI controller keyboard, it is a similar process, where you will select it from a list of available MIDI inputs.)
Once that you see that working, you might be interested in syncing Logic Pro to Misha, so your sequences work with the MIDI Clock from Logic Pro. In this case you will need a second type “A” 3.5 mm TRS to 5 pin DIN female adapter, such as this:
(You won’t need a second midi-to-usb adapter tho, since it has both in and out on it already.)
Don’t worry about syncing til you see midi flowing in both directions – i.e., you should be able to send MIDI from Misha to the laptop, and also from the laptop into Misha.
Hope this doesn’t seem too confusing! Feel free to ask follow up questions if not clear.
