I’m circling back on this topic because I’ve made some progress implementing @h90rus’ idea. I now have proof of concept.
I don’t have a real signal generator for a uniform input signal but I do have an old and cheap Korg electronic metronome with an 1/8″ jack to output an A-440 sine wave for a tuning reference. It is so basic I can’t even adjust the level. That’s my uniform input signal. A basic synth or organ could be used as well.
I’m running that through my H90 and into my H9 OG. The H9 is connected to my computer with a USB cable and I’m monitoring the input to the H9 with the input meter in the pedal settings part of the H9 app. Please see attached image. It works great because the meters in the H9 app are HUGE and there is even a gain control for calibrating test levels. The system works pretty well and has reasonable adjustability.
Now I’m going to deduce a generic benchmark level by analyzing some of Eventide’s programs. Then I’ll use the preset A and preset B gain parameters to adjust my program levels to the benchmark. This part won’t be simple because the signal exiting the H90 often jumps around due to the effects themselves. If you think about it, that exactly what tremolo is by definition. Obviously delay does it too. So I’ll have to use some judgement and common sense.
