Hey-o,
Long time user, first-time poster. I tried to find discussions about this everywhere on the web to no luck so I guess I’m not expecting many replies, but I’m at a loss here.
I finally got around to trying out the CrushStation (CS) algorithm and, though it took me awhile, I’ve been able to dial in some amazing gain patches, from overdrive to heavy distortion, but I have a problem. First off, let me preface this by saying I am comfortable with most parameters, but I absolutely despise “sag.” I can 100% see where someone would love it, but it’s just not my cup of tea. I just feel like a battery is dying somewhere that I can’t find.
Anyway, I wanted to say that because my issue is related. On all of my CS patches, when I turn sag to “0,” I get a ridiculous amount of noise/static. And that is correct: Loud noise when sag is “off” not “on.” Now when I turn sag up, it goes completely away and my rig (using two Voxes in stereo) is silent. I mean dead quiet, even with other gain pedals on. However, as soon as turn sag back off (drop it to 0), it’s crazy noisy again. I’ve been adding a bit of sag to all my patches as a quick fix, but I don’t like it, and even the lowest sag setting of “1” yields a crazy amount of random gating at the end of each note (IMO). And, the “noise gate” on this algorithm, honestly, might as well not be there. For some reason, the devs never updated the pedal/H9 Control version to allow you to tweak the gate, unlike plug-in versions. So, the noise gate does not work. Reducing sustain helps a tiny bit with the noise, but as long as sag is turned off, it barely makes a dent.
Here’s what I’ve tried: I have two H9s (three at one time) and this behavior exists on all of them. Tried using it without being Bluetooth connected to my PC, still noisy. Tried different power supplies (Strymon, Joyo and just using the Eventide adapter), and using it alone with no other pedals. Tried in different homes and at a downtown gig with the same results. Nothing helps.
While I’m typing this, the only other thing I can think of that I haven’t tried is to up the voltage from 9V to 12V, so I can try that as well.
Has anyone ever noticed this behavior? Or does anyone have any advice?

Hello! I am a recent user of a H9 and this is my first post. Seems the H90 is taking the most attention but H9 is still a great unit.
In your case, if that sympton happens in three pedals it excludes the hardware; there is still the instrument electronics and the cables to check.
