Hello, I’m having trouble to make the looper work. I use a gordius midicontroller .

The 1-button is working, but I want to have more control with minimum 3, and if possible 7 or 8 swithes on my midicontroller.

I’ve done this before with the strymon timeline, with kemper, and with tc electronics.

But nothing happens, whatever I try……

I don’t find a decent explanation in the manual, or an online tutorial.

I must be doing something wrong, but I’m running in circles…..

So, What are the exact steps in the H90 to make the looper work with midi commands?

Let’s say you have the Looper in Preset B. Below, I’ve listed the looper performance controllers that can be mapped to your MIDI controller using CC numbers. On your MIDI Controller assign CC numbers to footswitches so they correspond to the actions you want to control like Record, Play, Stop, etc. Make sure your controller is sending messages on the same channel as the H90 – default Channel 1. In my example, I have made the following assignments:

          CC17 – 1-Button Looper
          CC12 – Record – CC12
          CC13 – Play
          CC14 – Stop
          CC15 – Undo/Redo
          CC16 – Erase

Important: For the MIDI Controller to behave like a momentary switch, it’s necessary to program two commands per switch:

          • On Press – Send CC# with value 127
          • On Release – Send CC# with value 0 (zero)

To program controller change numbers to looper functions on the H90:

          1. Press PERFORM to enter Perform mode
          2. Press the B LED button to enter the Performance Parameter Mapping menu for Preset B.
          3. With the first quick knob scroll through the list of parameters until you see Record.
          4. With the second quick knob set that to learn.
          5. Press a footswitch on your MIDI controller so the H90 senses the correct CC#
          6. Repeat steps 3-5 for Play, Stop, Undo/Redo, Erase, and 1-btn loop, if you want.
          7. Once you’re finished making assignments, press PERFORM to exit the mapping menu. Don’t forget to save your Program.

Now you have full control of the looper via MIDI.

            Hello Joe,

Thanks for the quick responce. Seems to me the looper must be in preset B?

When I tried in Preset A, I didn’t get the choice “record”, the closest in preset A was “1-button looper” and “direction”.

Is this by design, or am I still missing something?

Anyway in preset B it seems to work.

Seems to me the looper must be in preset B?

The Looper algorithm works in either.

When I tried in Preset A, I didn’t get the choice “record”, the closest in preset A was “1-button looper” and “direction”.

This doesn’t sound like you’re in the performance parameters mapping menu. Are you asking how to assign CC#’s here?

If you are referring to the performance parameters, I see 1-Btn loop, Direction, Speed, Record, Play, Stop, Undo/Redo, and Erase. You must press the A LED button consecutively to see all the options.

Ok, I’m gonna try it out, I never use the buttons on the H90, it’s in a rack.

I only use H90 control. Is it posible that I can’t find the “learn” function there?

That’s correct, the Learn function is on the pedal, but you don’t need to access the pedal if you’re using the software. On the software, just make the CC assignments directly.

I too am struggling with H90 looper and external midi control.  I followed your instructions above but getting only partial success. FYI: I have a Morningstar MC4 Pro and H90 with latest firmware.  Same midi channels.

I set 1 btn looper in slot B (had no success with looper in slot A btw!).

Following your instructions, I pressed the B LED and assigned Midi CC#s to the looper functions:

                    • Record = CC 30
                    • Play = CC 31
                    • Stop = CC 32
                    • etc.

                    Save the preset.

I double checked that these CC#s are not assigned to any other functions in the H90 editor.

                    Problem #1:

I programmed the MC4 so that when I call up the 1 btn looper, the device *should* switch to perform mode (I set Midi CC 61 to engage perform mode in H90 Editor).

However, when I engage it and send Midi CC 61, H90 won’t toggle to Perform mode; stays in Select mode (?!).

                    Problem #2:

I press Record foot switch on MC4 which sends CC 30, and the H90 records (good news!).

I press Play foot switch on MC4 which sends CC 31, and the H90 plays (good news!).

I press Stop foot switch on MC4 which sends CC 32, but the H90 doesn’t stop (!?).

                    I think: maybe it doesn’t like CC 32, so I re-program everything to try CC 33 for stop; H90 doesn’t stop (!?).

                    Completely confused!

Also, the fact that I can’t assign looper CCs via the online editor and that these functions are buried only on the device under the B LED is very confusing/frustrating.  I’ve spent days and days trying every kind of workaround and still can’t get it to behave…HELP PLZ!

For problem 1, are you sending a PC first and then sending the CC message to switch to perform mode?

For your looper transport issues, it sounds like your MIDI CCs are not setup correctly. The CC message needs to send a high value when the footswitch is pressed, followed by a low value when the footswitch is released. Please confirm your MC4 is configured to do this.

See #3 for how to use H90 Control to assign the external controller mappings: https://cdn.eventideaudio.com/manuals/h90/1.12.5/content/h90-control/edit.html#control-assignments
