Problem installing H8000FW drivers on WinXP

  I'm trying to install the H8000FW drivers on a PC running WinXP (service pack 3). Everything seems to go fine until I plug the Eventide in. The driver installation process continues but when it gets to the "installing H8000aiso.dll" part Windows crashes each and every time (PC just reboots).
  
  Anybody heard of this happening before? I've used plenty of other firewire devices on the PC without any problem, but have uninstalled all of them just in case their drivers were interferring.
  
  I've tried both using the FW drivers that came on the CD with the H8000FW and also the one available on the Eventide website.

  We have no experience at this time with WinXP SP3, so cannot say whether SP3 is the cause of the problem. If all else fails go back to SP2.
  
  Otherwise ..
  
  1) Make sure your H8000 is disconnected from the PC.
  
  2) The drivers on the Web Site will be the most recent.
  
  3) You probably now have multiple drivers partly installed – do what you can to clean them up before continuing.
  
  4) Try unregistering the H8000asio.dll – from the Start Menu choose Run.. and enter the following:
  
  regsvr32 -u C:WINDOWSsystem32H8000asio.dll
  
  followed by [OK]. (this assumes you have Windows in C:WINDOWS).
  
  4) Close all other applications before re-installing.

  I tried reverting to SP2 and then ran through the above suggestions but I'm still experiencing the same problem. One interesting point is that whenever I uninstall the H8000FW driver I get the following error in WinXP: "The application or DLL C:WINDOWSsystem32H8000asio.dll is not a valid Windows image. Please check this against your installation diskette."
  
  Is there any older version of the H8000FW driver available I could try?

  The CD version is probably the oldest one worth trying.
  
  If you haven't already, uninstall the driver and then if present manually delete any files in Windowssystem32 and Windowssystem32drivers beginning H8000. You'll need to be logged on with Administrator rights.
  
  Then do a search for any files ending .inf and containing the word H8000 in the Windowsinf directory. Delete these. Also delete files with the same name but ending .PNF
  
  Then reboot and download the driver again (or use the CD version) and retry the installation.
  
  If this doesn't work .. get back to me. Or even if it does.

  Unfortunately none of the above worked. I even ended up reinstalling Windows and then trying the driver from the CD before installing anything else and I still get the same problem. I'm thinking it may be some hardware fault with the firewire card in the PC (perhaps the Eventide is trying to use more bandwidth on it than its used to!), I'm going to buy a new card and give it another whirl. Thanks for all the suggestions so far!

  Let's hope that does it. I'm running out of ideas here ….
  
  There will be new drivers late next month, which should be a big improvement over the current ones.

  You'll have to wait for Windows7 and Snow Leopard ….

  So I picked up a new PCI firewire card today and the Eventide software installed without any problems, so it was a problem with the old firewire card. For the record the old one that gave problems is an eMagic PCI FireWire800 3P 32/64-bit PCI. It has a Texas Instruments chipset, which is apparently the preferred chipset. Computers, the bane of my life!

  Good – glad you are moving along.
  
  The TI chip set is usually a good one (it's the one on my PC), so it may be some other problem on the card. At least the cards are (usually) cheap.
  
  There are some issues with some NEC chip sets, so anyone having FireWire problems should check for this.
  
  Computers, hate them or … hate them !
