I like everything I've read about the Eclipse…except it's age which externally can be seen in it's serial port and no usb. Internally, I have no idea. At that price tag I'll have to beg, borrow, and steal to get one. So with no room to make a mistake I'm wondering, as a 14 year old piece of high technology, is the Eclipse processor too old to be investing in?

It would be inappropriate for me to say anything either way. But ….

You should look at what it is, what it does, and in particular how it sounds, and draw your own conclusion. I will say that an effects unit is something that makes you sound good – an investment is a financial instrument.

I also note that there is a 1960 Strat on eBay right now for $29k – age is not everything.

I believe that there are USB-to-DB9 cable adaptors.

I am probably going to test this myself.

Either that, or just use my ancient WinXP laptop to load the updates.

You can still buy the larger compact flash disks.

Nevertheless, the Eclipse is an amazing device.  The forward-thinking of Eventide engineers to still be able to load updates and new algo's is a great feature!!
