I finally decided to set up the networking on the H9000 to get any OS updates.

Unfortunately I can’t connect to my network.  The reason?  The H9000 keypad does not have *all* the characters/symbols present on a standard computer keyboard.  So I can’t type in my router password to connect.

The days of “Passw0rd” being sufficient are long gone and folks now use the entire range of letters/number/symbols to create passwords.

As a programmer, I understand that some of the less-used symbols can present problems for the OS developers since they have to be more careful about parsing input strings, but in at least the network screens, you really do need to present all the same stuff that’s on a regular computer keyboard.

As a corollary, I would request that at least for now, Eventide makes the OS updates available as a file for people to download (as well as full instructions on how to update via file).  At this point, even if you address the issue, I can’t download the new OS to take advantage of the fix.

For the record, I’m not willing to change my router password just to accomodate the H9000 since every other device in the house is able to connect successfully.

I agree that we need to provide a way to enter all the characters on a standard keyboard and we'll discuss how best to do this among the team.  We plan to offer software updates via emote (which being a standard computer or mobile app has normal input methods available to it), but that isn't ready yet.

H9000 software updates can also be installed via a USB flash drive.  We haven't started publishing the USB installable packages in the Downloads section of the web site yet.  In the interim, you can download the 2 files linked below, copy them to the root of a FAT32 formatted USB drive, insert the drive into a USB port on the H9000, and power on holding both check and X keys for a couple of seconds.  (This is documented on page 74 of the manual).

There will be another software update in the next few days with some important fixes so we'll post download links for that when it is published.

thanks for the quick response and the file links.  I’m very comfortable with computers/USB drives and the like so this process works for me.

I have 1.0.0.25. Are these updates just listed here newer than what I have?

                  Hi Bryan,

Right now 1.0.0.25 is the latest Production build but we are working on releasing a new build soon which will fix some bug issues found in 1.0.0.25.

                  Thanks!

Thanks Patrick. Will that automatically show up as an update alert on my unit, or do I need to watch this site fot it?

Hope you had a successful NAMM Show!

                  Bryan

The update will automatically appear as available in your H9000 under SETUP>SOFTWARE UPDATE once the update is available. This will only work if your H9000 is connected to the network.

                      SummerNAMM was great!!

for the record, I threw the two files onto a USB stick, popped it into the H9k, held down the X and Check buttons and the update went without a hitch.

There were some very long pauses where nothing was happening on screen, so if/when you do an update, be patient.  Overall it seemed to take a few minutes for the entire process (via USB) stick.

What about running an Ethernet cable for the purpose of doing the update?

Yes, an Ethernet cable would work for updating the H9000. Having your Ethernet plugged in will satisfy all of the H9000’s network capabilities such as updating your unit and connecting to Emote.

Of course a cable would work perfectly if either a) I had a long enough cable in stock, or b) I was willing to pull the H9000 from the rack just to do an update.  The faceplate finish seems a bit easy to mark/chip, especially along the top/bottom edges, and I didn’t need the update immediately.

Since it’s early in the process, I figured I’d try the wireless since it is convenient and see how it went.  As a result, a potential issue/bug was dicovered so in the long run it’s a win.  If I absolutely needed the update to finish a session or something then yes, pulling the unit from the rack and cabling it up would have been the process.

Yes, thanks for reporting it.  This will be fixed in the next software update – you'll be able to enter all the characters on a standard keyboard.  I am asking myself if this goes far enough for international users, but we will address that if it comes up.

just following up to close the loop – the latest OS does provide easy access to the rest of the character set and I was able to wirelessly connect to my network from the H9000 front panel.  No problems entering my password.

                                thanks
