I actually got my answer with some further research and and I think it is an Eventie Question…with al due respect.  The H9 doesn't send power to midi devies so NO the Voodoo Labs Commander does no ok on is own with the H9.

This is true.  The H9 doesn't send power to midi devices.  This was an oversight actually that we now regret, but that's how it works.
