Looking at the picture from the store and inspecting the imx8 variants NXP offers, it looks like the new chip may be the MIMX8MM5DVTLZAA. In any case, if they’re moving from a imx6 quad to a imx8 quad, it looks like overall compute should be up ~50% or more.

It’s going to be interesting seeing how Eventide takes advantage of this added compute over time. I’m guessing they’ll eventually stop supporting gen1 so they can fully take advantage of the added processing power, and unify what are going to be at least two separate optimization/build processes (32bit for imx6 and 64bit for imx8). I’d be interested to hear a timeline for this if they have one, as supporting multiple pipelines like this can reduce engineering velocity and the improvements that land on our devices.

All this pondering aside, thank you Eventide for making the h9k upgradable like this.
