It was a faulty OXU mini.  support@barn3.com guided me through some troubleshooting and ultimately replaced the unit.  Really good support from them.

Note: I initially sent my knife drop to eventide for repair since my Yamaha FC7 expression pedal didn’t work on it either, but turns out the Yamaha FC7 isn’t compatible with the Knife Drop.
