hi,
my first Eventide processor was a GTR4000, then I moved to an Orville and finally to a H8000fw, which I still have. I bought the H90 as it came out.
The H8000 is like a part of my body that grew with me through the years. My musical vocabulary has been expanding the more I was able to dive into its language and hidden possibilities.
I recently became a very happy user of the H90, which sits on my desk with an “anything can feed it” routing so my modular case, my Akai MPC, my Monome Norns, my Torso S4 and the output of my Ableton Live processed guitar can go into it anytime.
Its immediate interface has convinced me to put it at a very central position of my production rig. The H8000 is still connected to 4 of the 8 aux sends of my Allen & Heath GL4000 desk, which works as a routing matrix connecting my production desk to the recording rig via an RME UFX+.I recently used it to process the piano of the magic Lino Capra Vaccina, with whom I’m releasing an album these days and my beloved Singularity algorithm was the trick to give the instrument the space and dimension no plugin was able to deliver.
But I’m more a producer and a musician than someone who mixes and I was wondering if anyone of you, with more day to day use, has compared the two.
I’m tempted to sell my H8000 as it makes very small use, I feel guilty to hold it just for my romantic attachment when I would make a more wise use of the money I could get.
I need your voice, any story it might tell. -

Quick caveat emptor… obviously I’m an Eventide employee, but your experience resonates with mine as a musician. Like you, the H90 has taken up THE central position in my guitar rig. I got a DSP7000 years before getting hired by Eventide, and that unit is an extension of how I have sounded and grown over the years as a musician.
I still keep it tucked away in a rack case in my closet. I cannot bring myself to sell it, even though like you I can find better uses for the money. I still hook it up once or twice a year, just to dial up a few of my favorite presets and become the musician I once was. I put it in an insert loop of H90 to get it interfaced with the rest of my rig. I feel a wide variety of emotions every time I do this – nostalgia for the musician I was when I explored this unit, and like I am having an active conversation with a younger version of myself.
Invariably, I always pack it up a few days after wiring it in, because it’s big and bulky and inconvenient to use compared to the H90… and frankly, the H90 does everything I need in my guitar rig. But those few days every year with my DSP7000 are still very important to my past, present, and future.
Your mileage may vary, but this is my experience.
