Advanced Reverb Plug-in Features in Temperance Pro vs Temperance Lite

Discover a new kind of reverb plug-in that responds to musical notes. Compare Temperance Lite vs Pro and explore advanced reverb tools for modern music production.

Welcome to the brave new world of reverb. Temperance is a next-generation VST/AU reverb plug-in that responds directly to your music, letting you control which notes bloom, fade, or disappear within a space.

Unlike traditional reverb plug-ins that treat all frequencies equally, Temperance introduces a musical approach to space. Built on advanced modal reverb technology, it allows for precise, note-based control, giving producers, mixers, and sound designers a new level of expression.

Temperance Lite opens the door to this new way of working. Temperance Pro expands it into a complete studio reverb plug-in, designed for everything from everyday mixing to experimental sound design.

At the core of both versions is a powerful modal engine. Modal reverb models go beyond conventional algorithmic and convolution reverbs, enabling both realistic acoustic environments and entirely synthetic spaces. With modern CPU performance, this technology is finally accessible in a real-time audio plug-in for DAWs like Ableton Live, Logic Pro, Pro Tools, FL, and more.

With the Temper control set to neutral, Temperance functions as a high-quality reverb plug-in for vocals, drums, and instruments. Push it further, and it becomes something else entirely, a reverb that reacts to your musical decisions.

If you’re deciding between Lite and Pro, here’s what each version offers.

What You Get with Temperance Lite

Temperance Lite gives you everything you need to start creating with musical reverb. Here’s what’s inside:

Three Professional Spaces

  • Bright Room: Based on the SP2016 reverb, this classic space helps vocals, instruments, drums, and more sit perfectly in a mix.
  • Large Studio: Ralph Kessler, a pioneer in the study of acoustics, has generously shared one of his most famous reverbs with Eventide, recreated here.
  • Synthetic Space: Unnaturally evolving reverb textures created from scratch in-house to show off the new Modal reverb tech.

Core Musical Controls

The signature Temper knob sits at the heart of Lite. Set it to noon for traditional reverb. Turn it clockwise to adjust how much the selected notes ring out with your music. Turn it counterclockwise to de-emphasize the selected notes.

Use the radial selector to choose which of the 12 chromatic notes are affected and watch the NoteScape display ebb and flow around your notes, displaying the musical tempering in real time.

15 Factory Presets

Each of the 5 tutorial presets showcases a different aspect of musical reverb, from positive tempering, which makes notes bloom, to negative tempering, which clears space in the mix. They’re your roadmap to understanding how this technology works. The remaining presets highlight a range of musical uses.

Everything You Need to Get Started

Temperance Lite’s controls are fully automatable. Settings like Mix, Decay, Pre-delay, and Size work exactly as expected for instant familiarity. Range Sliders let you isolate specific frequency bands as well as define the range of musical notes that are tempered for precise control. With ultra-low latency under 1ms, Temperance is suitable for tracking and real-time performance, while Eco mode provides more efficient CPU performance at the cost of some fidelity. Tuning Settings let you adjust the reference and fine tuning, and Note lock keeps your current notes selected as you browse the presets.

Lite has all the tools you need to shape space musically. Discover a reverb plug-in that can finally respond to the language of music.

Taking Musical Reverb Further

While Temperance Lite proves the concept of musical reverb, Temperance Pro delivers the complete vision. All of the familiar features of Lite return in Pro, which expands upon them in significant ways.

Two New Fundamental Tempering Controls

With Lite you can control tempering in four ways: which notes are tempered, the amount and type of tempering and the frequency range that is tempered. Pro adds two key new tempering controls.

  • NoteWidth: When you select a note in Lite, its width is fixed at 50%. Pro gives you the ability to narrow or widen your selected notes. This is a key control. For example, with negative temper you may want to carve out a wide range of frequencies around your chosen notes. For positive tempering, a narrow note width creates dramatic tonal resonances.
  • Target: Lite gives you the ability to select which notes across the audio range are tempered. For example, if you’ve selected the note “C”, the range control lets you decide whether all 10 Cs are tempered or only the low Cs, or only the mid Cs or only the high Cs. Pro adds the important ability to control whether the tempering affects only the early onset of your reverb or only the late tail or the entire reverb.

Two New Fundamental Tempering Controls

Temperance is built on a revolutionary way to model any space; a modal model. In Lite the modal parameters lie ‘under the hood’. Pro brings out three modal parameters expanding what’s possible in this new type of acoustic space.

  • Position: balances the levels of the modes comprising the early and late reflections
  • Density: adjust from 100% musical character down to 1% for fragmented, lo-fi textures
  • Offset: shift the entire reverb up to 500Hz up or down independent of Temper settings

29 Meticulously Crafted Spaces

Pro expands from 3 spaces to 29, covering every sonic need:

  • Focused spaces like Small Cabin and Tight Room
  • Grand halls including Opera House and Large Church
  • Mechanical reverbs including plates and springs
  • Experimental environments like Swimming Pool, Dense Cave, and SciFi

Each space was built to sound exceptional on its own while showcasing the power of musical tempering.

Advanced Note Selection Methods

Beyond the familiar radial interface, Pro adds three game-changing modes:

  • Manual
  • Sequence
  • MIDI

Manual Mode

Note-roll style selection with scale, chord, mode, and interval presets and transposition.

Sequence Mode

Program note changes over time, turning your reverb into a compositional tool.

MIDI Mode

Connect a MIDI controller or keyboard for real-time performance control with octave repeat.

Professional Workflow

Pro includes over 120 factory presets (including 11 Getting Started presets), undo/redo functionality, A/B comparison states, Input & Output level faders with metering, as well as a Kill Dry switch to cut incoming audio but let reverb tails ring out. Mix Lock lets you browse presets with your current mix setting, while Dual Mono mode keeps the stereo image centered.
