If the Ext light is blinking, it means that a routed source is unlocked, even if you are not using it. If this concerns you, go through the routing screens and unroute anything you are not using.
If the source is INT, it is likely that all digital sources will be unlocked – you need a sync source for a digital input to lock. This can be the digital input itself, or a central sync such as wordclock.
