FWIW, the update to 4.0.1 on my Space pedal that caused my problem was done with a mac, running 10.11.3, via USB. Wondering if this particular installer situation might be the problem – there were some pretty significant changes made in OS X 10.11 in how it handles USB; perhaps your updater needs updating?
