… What I’m finding is that h90 is the first effector in which I select one preset and end up using it for days with slight variations, so it may take a year until I get familiar with all the types…
It’s not a bad thing. You discover that the each algorithm is actually a multi-effect. And eventually, which ones are the best fit for overall concept you’re looking for. You’ll find that every choice brings a different set of parameters to the table, however subtle.
Using your example, QuadraVox+ adds the potential for delay feedback paths, detuning, and an alternate set of harmonies (with glides!). Crystals is great, but you may find Polyphony or Reverse fits the intent in a slightly different way.
I did start ‘way back with the PitchFactor, but you never really stop learning the H90, and that’s disregarding the periodic updates with brand new algorithms. I recently re-discovered some cool applications for Synthonizer & Octaver (two I never bonded with, initially). So sometimes, it’s just looking at an effect from a different angle. One of the first things I do with an idea is see how two algorithms compare in Series, swapped in Series, or in Parallel.
