    Hello Stevied,

    You ask…

I saw this in the manual. It looks like what I am describing, but it is addressing inserts. Can this be done with internal routing, or would I have to jumper insert point from the back of the unit?

To create a dry path there is no need for jumping of any kind. In this diagram you’re taking your input signal and splitting it three ways, between both Eventide algorithms and one external stereo pedal, the signal from each is being mixed back together again and output in stereo. That said, every program on the H90 has a P Mix parameter that controls the balance between the digitized dry signal and the wet signal from the effects. Set P Mix to any value less than 100 and you now have a parallel path of dry signal plus the wet effects. Imagine drawing a direct line from the input to the output bypassing the effects similar to the X-Blender. Please note: If you prefer to operate with such a dry path it is recommended to run the algorithms in Kill Dry mode and your external effect 100% wet to avoid summing copies of dry signal together, which can lead to volume spikes if you’re not careful. Setting things up this way, you would control the level of each Eventide algorithm using its own Mix parameter (Either A Mix or B Mix). These Mix parameters would basically act as a level control relative to the dry signal similar to the knobs on the X-Blender. The external effect level could either be adjusted using the pedal’s own output level, if it has one, or the Send and Return levels for that insert on the H90.

In this configuration, without jumping, does the unaffected audio internally route in parallel with the presets, or only via insert points? I’ve never been a fan of running thru a preset and setting the mix ratio within the preset. I like the sound better when parallel process 100 wet. This looks possible… but am I missing something?

The unaffected audio internally routes in parallel and you can control the balance use the aforementioned P Mix parameter. Running the Eventide algorithms in Kill Dry mode and your external effect 100% wet will give you the sound you’re after. To recap,

    – P Mix controls the overall balance of dry signal and wet three-way effects path.
    – With each effect in Kill dry their respective Mix parameters act as individual level controls.
    – For the effect in the insert, run it 100% wet and use either it’s own level control or the H90’s insert Send and Return levels to get the right balance.
