Using an allen wrench last night, I removed the face plate, I then took off the back being careful not to touch anything. I was able to remove the knobs, and found the dirt was between the knobs and the plate just under them, not in the cavity of the rotary switches themselves. I was then able to just wipe the whole plate clean, but the pedal back together and voila, no more dirt.
