wondering if its a software or hardware limitation to be able to only use one digital in/out mode and if its a software limitation are there any plans to update it?
it would be really fantastic to be able to use AES and ADAT at the same time and be able to route different things through each.
thanks!

You don’t mention what device you are using so this may be irrelevant.
I have a H8000 and using the PC version of the routing utility I can select different inputs.
I have attached/uploaded a screen grab of the router with the AES, ADAT and analog inputs being used.

Hello,
The routing implementation on the H9000 could potentially be reworked to allow more routing options with simultaneous use of the digital inputs, but we have not seen many requests for this feature so it is a low priority and not something we are currently pursuing.
If many users would like this feature, we may consider changing this.
Can you be more specific with what your setup and gear consists of? Perhaps there is another way you could accomplish what you are looking for?

thanks for writing – thats great to hear its possible even if its low priority.
right now i have all 8 analog ins used:
in 1: guitar, in 2: mono synth, 3/4 + 5/6 + 7/8 are 3 stereo synths – i use all these inputs at the same time.
on the AES dsub, i have lexicon PCM 81 (1/2), orville (3/4 + 5/6) and dangerous d box for monitoring on (7/8)
i also have a eurorack and a kyma setup that i’d like to integrate without adding anymore hardware, if possible.. then i realized what if i could take the ADAT i/o from either the expert sleepers module (connected to the modular..) or take the ADAT i/o from the MOTU ultralite (connected to kyma setup..)
simply, i’m trying to add the 8 channels of i/o from the eurorack and/or kyma setup to the existing setup on the H9000 over ADAT, so i don’t have to give up any analog / AES channels.
i don’t really have any experience with ADAT, so i’m not sure if theres clocking stuff i’m not aware of, or if what i’m asking is possible..
thanks for the help!

There aren’t any special configurations to get ADAT working, you just need to have the clocking set correct (either have the other devices sync to the H9000, or vice versa) and note that the sample rate will max out at 48k.
A few options I can think of:
- You can connect your eurorack or kyma via ADAT to the existing setup. You would just have to choose whether you want to use the devices on the ADAT chain OR the AES chain. It’s very easy to make some Session presets on the H9k to load up either your AES or ADAT configurations, you would just need to be ok with the either/or scenario.
- You could get a 1/4 patch bay and connect all of the gear from the current AES chain to the patch bay. You can then always use ADAT instead of the AES, and it would be a bit more flexible than the first option suggested since you can patch in whatever you need on the 8 analog channels depending on what you are working on.
Let me know if you’d like any further information.
