I wanted to share a thought regarding the current state of the modelers, effect units and pedalboards on the market.
In my view, the “core tone” problem (amps, drives, cabs) is largely solved. Most modellers and capture players these days sound great, even cheaper ones and many of them now run open-source options like NAM.
However, where they still fall short is high-end and unique FX.This is why I believe Eventide is in a unique position to create a highly competitive all-in-one-unit with the following core specs:
Effects: 4 or more H90 algorithms running simultaneously
Amps+Cabs: Native integration of an open-source player like NAM A2
Utilities: IR loader, EQs, noise gates, gain, and other “smaller” FX-blocksBy integrating an open-source amp player like NAM, Eventide wouldn’t need to spend years capturing and modelling amplifiers. Building this on a modern ARM architecture should make it possible to keep the price point competitive while offering a truly complete all-in-one solution.
What do you think?

In my personal opinion, an H90 style processor with four algo capabilities would require a complete new design, not a mere modification of the H90. That is al least due to (1) the latency of the current system; and (2) the lack of analog dry through of the current system. Adding to that the latency of a NAM player and we’re prolly talking a minimum of 12ms of latency for this unit alone. I’m told a Fractal AM4 is less than 2ms of latency. I’d rather complement an H90 by adding to my board an effects processor with analog dry through (like the Strymon MX pedals).
Considering that global supply chains are likely to get worse it is also risky to bet it all on one new product at this time. What happens when the one needed golden chip doubles in price due to tariffs or is no longer available due to an invasion of Taiwan?
I think the better product would be a stereo NAM player with the look and feel of the H9G2. The Eventide Control would be great for organizing a NAM preset library. This could be done in far less time and could find a home on almost anyone’s pedalboard because it would be small and relatively cheap (compared to an all in one unit). Naturally, this could go into an H90 stereo insert. I’d also add a digital out of some kind for low latency low d/a a/d specs when using it with computers and other digital effects.
