In a trade, I just got an Eventide Ultratap. I wasn’t really looking for one, but some videos convinced me it could be an interesting pedal. I already have a Boss DD3T and a Boss DD8, so not really sure if I need the Ultratap! (I had also been looking at the Boss SDE-3, but the Eventide seems a lot more powerful).

Some videos show that it can do a kind of reverse reverb, or gated type sound? I have a Boss RV5, which I use for the gated reverb, but I am not too sold on it for this effect.

I can only find one Ultratap video on YT with the reverse effect. Anyone got any tips for getting this sound out of the pedal?

I assume, as it is in an Ultratap, that it can mimic the Hazarai’s multitap 3 sec, 1 sec settings? Any tips on how to get close to these with the Eventide?

This pedal could kill a few birds with one stone! My plan was to sell it on again, but it might just stick around.

You’re familiar with Hazarai.  It’s Fall / Rise is similar to UltraTap’s Taper (wired in reverse).  Try picking a healthy overall Length, 64 Taps, Slurm about 50, no Feedback or Chop.  You can add on Pre Delay for some separation.  Then dial in negative values of Taper to adjust for an inverse reverb effect.

Those two EHX Multitap modes are fairly straightforward.  Length somewhere under 1000 or 3000 mS, respectively, with 3 Taps.  Listen for where Feedback produces the 1-30 repeats.  Again, the Taper control will adjust the swelling or fading over Taps volumes.

Lots more you can do with UltraTap, given its 10 second maximum and multi-effect Chop machine.  It can easily fill in as a looper or even a tremolo.

@brock Thanks for the reply. I’ll try that with the Ultratap. It seems to have a lot of options apart from the more standard types of sounds.

I’m going to suggest using Eventide Control to fully explore UltraTap.  Everything is cleanly laid out on a single page.  And since it came in a trade, it could probably use a firmware update to bring it up-to-date.

Good shout! I forgot about Eventide Control
