Hello,
My H8000 is in the parallel aux loop of a mixer. It receives signal tapped from the preamp’s (SansAmp, Fractal) mixer channel send.
Working with the Long Delay programs using a high % of feedback. I like to get a ‘loop’ going and to end it use the big wheel to turn the feedback from say 80% back to zero, but I’d like to also work where I can play improv along with the loops but not have that particular playing dubbed onto the loop, you know, like ‘play mode’ on a looper.
How can you toggle the Input of the H8000 off/on, in order to bypass the feeding signal, while the delay ‘tails’ continue to feed back?
Hoping to use midi cc# message(s) that would toggle the input open/closed, while long feedback loops continue.
For now I am using an Out 2 Vol cc#12 assignment on the AxeFX which mutes/unmutes the signal going to the H8000 in the Send block, it’s totally quiet but it’s cumbersome and there must be a simpler way. Would be great to have a similar cc# command on the H8000.
In the H8K manual all the Bypass types bypass the output which is exactly what I don’t want and haven’t found anything about muting only the input.
The Lexicon PCM 81 has an InputMute bypass command that makes this easy, but I have not found an analogous command on the H8000.
If this is more complicated than it needs to be accept my humble apologies, just something I’m not getting.
I’d be very grateful for help setting this up. Super-grateful because it will make my rack lighter!
TIA
– H

Hello,
Have you checked out the “Delays – Loops” algorithms? See page 25: https://s3.amazonaws.com/com.eventide.downloads/Product+Manuals/H8000presets.pdf
Many or perhaps all of the dedicated looper algorithms have mechanisms to open/close the loop. You can use an aux switch / MIDI CC / etc.
The Long Delay algorithm does not have this parameter, the only option you have with this is controller the level you send to the H8000 input.
Let me know if that helps.

Hi, thanks for the quick reply.
Yes, I am a guitarist working in the Long Delay – Loops programs, a lot with Skew Loop, Manifold Alpha etc. with long delay times and very high feedback to set up soundscapes, 2 in 2 out..
Get a long delay ‘loop’ repeating, then play melodic improv ‘over’ (in parallel with) it (not adding that improv to the loop material) and basically switch i/o of improv with loop and ‘writing to loop’, as it were.
I’ve been using a Boss DD-20 pedal this way, has up to 23 secs Delay time and feedback control. Hit fs to exit effect, feedback high, play improv, hit fs again to enter ‘dub’ mode–but it’s a delay not a sampler-type looper which is the cool thing. The music can evolve, modes etc. So yeah, I want to get the H8000 to behave like the DD-20 in digital delay mode.
A cc# to switch the Global Input level to zero or “close” the H8000 Input (?) and toggle the Input level back “on” on one midi footswitch seems to be the indicated solution. Something analogous to turning off/on an Input “block”.
Not fixed on the cc# solution, open to all suggestions.
I would be setting it up on the front panel.
Any help means a lot. Thanks!

Hi again,
There is no global option to mute the input.
For Manifold Alpha:
- load the algorithm
- press parameters button
- press the 2nd soft key “loop” twice
- on the 2nd page of the loop parameters set “mode” to a pedal / aux switch / MIDI CC
- you can now open/close the loop using the external controller
I haven’t checked Skew Loop but many of these algorithms have similar functions.
