when my h8000 unit has been on for a while, and starts to get warm, the LCD display seems to wash out – the blueish background turns whiter.
is this normal? if it's heat related, do i have cooling problems? thanks!

HI J
that's nornal! You can re_adjust brightness and contrast as you like, under SETUP>display.

Mine stopped doing that when I cleared a rack space above and below.

The LCD's operation is affected by temperature, so this is not unlikely.
An H8000FW has a lot of stuff in it and as a result runs quite hot. Wherever possible, it should have empty space above and below it when rack mounted.
Like all of us, its behaviour may be adversely affected if it gets too hot.

Can the LCD be somehow isolated from the rest of the circuits so that it's not affected?

Don'tbe worried about the display. It works fine. I have worked thousands of hours on these units and never had to do anything about it.
Heat is an electronics enemy. Users should follow the manual advice to let free space below/above the unit. That's all you need to take care of.
