H90 and MPC

Hi! I just got my first H90 and I’m absolutely loving it. I’m routing both guitar and vocals from the H90 into my MPC live 3 for composition and live looping. I was curious who else was using the H90 this way and also if anyone knew how to set up the VocalMidiShift algorithm so that I can trigger the MPC pads for harmonies. Kind of like this:

I can’t find any info on how to set this up. Also curious if anyone has triggered H90 parameters via Midi Q links on the MPC. This seems quite complicated but I’m eager to learn.

Also, silly me for thinking that dual mode was actually an option. There’s no way I can unhear two algorithms. A single algorithm wont cut it per instrument…so I’ll need to get another one. The adventure begins!

Congrats on the new H90 and sounds like you have a cool setup!

I’m not familiar with the MPC Live 3 (I’m still using my trusty old MPC 1000 and sometimes a dusty old MPC 60!) but for the VocalShiftMIDI harmonies you’ll just need to figure out a way to program your MPC pads to send MIDI notes/chords. Then send the MIDI output from the MPC to the H90 and make sure all of the channels match, and you should hear harmonies when you trigger the MIDI chords. I’m sure you can get some really fun stuff happening once you sequence some chords on the MPC.

Again, not familiar with the MIDI Q Links, but the MIDI programming on H90 is pretty straightforward. You’ll just need to configure the controller to send MIDI CCs and then you can go to a parameter mapping menu on the H90 to map that parameter to whichever CC you like. https://cdn.eventideaudio.com/manuals/h90/1.1.2/content/edit-modes/parameters.html#mapping

No MPC here, only vocals or guitar / keyboard audio straight in.

Start with matching up the MIDI Channels in both devices (of course).  MPC pads sending MIDI Notes for VocalShiftMIDI to receive.  Velocity Sens at 0 to test, then to 100 once confirmed.  You may want to send Pitch Bend messages from the MPC (if possible), and map Vibe Rate & Depth to incoming MIDI CC messages.  Gate (threshold) may need some tweaking.

The remaining parameters are adjustable to taste.  As I recall, I don’t get much out of the Vibe Slew control.  And if you want a real adventure, place the future H90 as a stereo insert into your current H90.

Wow! Thank you both for the prompt replies! What a great community. I finally figured it out and like most things I was using the wrong cable. I thought using the USB C to USB C cable that came with the Live 3 would work best (or a midi cable), but it turns out I needed to use the H90 stock USB C to USB A cable. From there it took a bit to learn how to record Audio and Midi simultaneously on the Live 3, but all you need to do is hold down shift to arm multiple tracks. What a wild world.

I am so happy with the vocal algorithms…I’ve never heard anything like them before. I am absolutely sold on buying another one so I can dedicate one for guitar and the other for vocals. And I didn’t even think about using an H90 as an insert! Thanks Brock for that! I’m going to start working on learning the midi triggers now.

I wish I had an MPC 60…I use an MPC 60 pluggin on all my drum tracks.
