All the distortions sound super dark to me. Sculpt, Weedwhacker, Pitchfuzz etc.

When I listen to demo videos online they sound incredible, but when I try them they are so dark they’re pretty much unusable. Even when I copy the settings I see online. What could I be doing wrong?

<span style=”font-size: inherit;”>When I watch the Leon Todd demo for Sculpt for example, it sounds super crisp and clear and bright, but when I copy the settings (and also use a strat with a super bright bridge pickup) it sounds nothing like the video, really dark and murky.

I have a Tonex One with a clean Deluxe Reverb tone going into the input of the H90, then the H90 out to a Seymour Duncan Powerstage and then into a cab. The Tonex sounds great on its own, as do my other pedals when I use them. The other H90 effects all seem fine too I think. Is there something I’m missing that would make the drives or the unit sound really dark? The H90 and Tonex are both connected to a Disaster Area loop switcher if that makes a difference.

The distortions – fuzz, OD etc – should be before any preamp, just like with real amps. You have your preamp BEFORE the drives. If I were you I would put the Tonex in an H90 loop and route it after the drives. Try that.

… Or if your loop switcher enables you to change loop order, like my G3, do that.

<p style=”text-align: left;”>And that sorted out the issue, thank you!
