I’ve never messed with MIDI and recently picked up a Rocktron MIDI Mate for $10, so thought I’d give it a try.
I’m unfortunately having issues with setting them up to communicate with each other.
Anybody have any experience or able to help me out?
Mostly interested in using for Hotswitches and Program/Bank switching

What you’ve tried so far would be helpful.
The first essentials:
- 5-pin DIN cable from MIDI Mate MIDI Out to H90 MIDI In
- MIDI Mate & H90 set to the same MIDI Channel
- If I recall correctly, they should both start out at Channel 1 as the default.

Once confirmed, we’ll move on to Program / Bank changes & HotSwitch mapping to CC messages.

Hello,
Can you provide more information about what you have tried and what you are having issues with? The connection of the 2 devices is straightforward (MIDI out from MIDI mate to MIDI input on H90), from there, you’ll need to determine what MIDI messages you are sending from the MIDI Mate, and if the H90 is configured properly to receive those messages.
Have you consulted the MIDI Mate manual? https://www.rocktronusa.com/uploads/2/2/2/5/22258814/midimate.pdf
It looks like buttons 5-9 are CCs, and buttons 0-4 are for PC messages (I only had a quick look at the manual). I would suggest looking up some tutorials for the MIDI Mate if you are not familiar with how it works yet.
You’ll need to make sure the MIDI Mate and H90 are both assigned to the same MIDI channel. The H90 will receive PC messages without any further configuration, so that should not be difficult to test. To map a HotSwitch to a MIDI CC, you can find instructions for that here: https://cdn.eventideaudio.com/manuals/h90/1.7.5/content/play-modes/perform.html#map-to-external-controllers
You can also globally map the HotSwitches so they will always responds to the same MIDI CC messages. I would suggest using H90 Control for this, see Global Control: https://cdn.eventideaudio.com/manuals/h90/1.7.5/content/h90-control/system.html
Let me know if that helps.
