      Hello,

I’m going crazy trying to figure out how the performance switch behaves in the various algos….

      I have a MIDI pedalboard that I’m programming to control a H9 running 5.4.1[7].

I ‘ve mapped cc18 for the performance switch in H9 control.

Having read those useful posts  (thank you !)  https://www.eventideaudio.com/comment/21647#comment-21647 and https://www.eventideaudio.com/node/6319, I was able to get the TIME, PITCH and SPACE-based presets to behave in a predictable way.

But I just can’t understand how the performance switch responds to MIDI CC in MODfactor.

In the end I tried to use expression pedal send CC18 (mapped to the perf swicth) from 0 to 127 to monitor when the pedal toggles. It seems it takes 2 fast heel hits (value 0 ?) to toggle between slow and fast in a MOD preset.

Trying to replicate this with a footswicth instead of the exp pedal, it’s really strange : with the switch programmed to toggle between CC values of 2 and 125, it takes 2 fast cycles to toggle from slow to fast, and 2 cycles to toggle back from fast to slow.

I then tried to replicate this using two switches sending each a unique CC value (one swicth sending CC value 2, another one sending CC value 125). The only way to get the pedal to toggle slow>fast>slow is to press the 125 switch and immediately the 2 switch. Won’t work if you wait a second between 125 and 2. Doesn’t seem to work going the other way round (2 then 125).

Would anybody have an explanation (and a solution …) to  this ? Am I doing something wrong or missing something ?

      Thanks for any advice,

      P.

      Hey!

What is happening is this.. I THINK.

I use an analog switch for the performance switch, but I have a MIDI switch mapped, too.

ModFactor is actually really awesome… and it behaves this way:

If I TAP the PerfSwitch.. it latches to SLOW mode and says “SLOW” on the h9. I then can TAP it and it will unlatch, and say “FAST” on the h9. (it does flash “brake” while I’m tapping.. but meh)

HOWEVER.. if I HOLD DOWN the PerfSwitch (either analog or MIDI).. it doesnt latch.. it acts like a MOMENTARY, and it says “BRAKE” on the h9. When I let up after a while.. is speeds up to the faster mode again. It doesn’t latch into SLOW mode. With this in mind. you can see that your behavior is actually normal. If the normal midi CC is a 125 pressing and 2 letting go… a “Tap” is 125 –>2 in a short time.

That said- to have a normal Midi Performance switch.. you need a Midi CC that sends a high value when engaged and a low value when disengaged. .. in GATE mode.. not toggle.

I get totally normal behavior using my Arturia and the following MIDI settings, across all algos. “normal” being the same as my analog switch.

      MODE: Switched Control

      Option GATE (not toggle!)

      On Value: 127

      Off Value: 0

I dont know if your pedal can do Gate mode.. but it should. If it can it will fix your problems!

      Hope that helps!

Hey, thanks so much for this detailed and fast answer !

        I’ll give it a try tomorrow !

Just figured it out on the leslie algo while setting the Helix to CC toggle. While the Performance switch is off you can double tap to toggle between slow and fast. if you hit it once you’ll toggle between Brake and off. you should go to the idea scale and vote up my suggestion to include momentary CC (or gate as above) so we can properly use the performance switch with the helix.
