Hi everyone,
I’m troubleshooting an Eventide TimeFactor with intermittent crackling/popping.
The behavior is:
Relay bypass is completely clean.
DSP bypass has occasional pops.
The problem gets much worse with heavier effects, especially Reverse with modulation.
Stronger guitar picking also makes the crackling more noticeable.
I initially suspected analog clipping, but the analog signal reaching the AK4620B is clean.
Using a logic analyzer, I found that:
SDTO (ADC → DSP) is clean
SDTI (DSP → DAC) contains glitched/incorrect PCM samples
MCLK, BICK and LRCK remain stable
The pedal uses three CY7C1049DV33-10VXI SRAMs as external DSP memory.
I also ran the internal diagnostics extensively: TEST ALL completed more than 36 passes without errors, and the individual RAM, Delay Memory, Flash and Analog Audio tests all pass.
Despite this, I still suspect the SRAMs because the problem becomes much worse with effects that appear to use the delay memory more heavily.
Has anyone seen these SRAMs fail intermittently while still passing the internal self-test?
Or would this behavior point more toward the DSP56367 itself?
I can replace all three SRAMs, but I would like some confirmation or a more decisive test before doing so.
Thanks,
Felipe – Brazil
