      Just upgraded and it asked to format internal ram i opted 'no' and it still erased my presets(that's the second time)…*** im annoyed. What did i do wrong?

       Now before initializing it read internal memory checksum error.

      Could someone help please.

      Don't think you did anything wrong.

      This is beta software, so it may well have unknown bugs.

      We'll look into it and let you know if we find anything helpful.

      i got the same error yesterday. i did clear the internal ram when i upgraded. my unit has been giving me internal checksum errors since i upgrded to 3.5 (but i was using an old setup from 3.1) so i'm not sure if it's related to v4 or there's something wrong with my unit. could the internal battery need replacing?

      I suspect there is a bug here, so suggest that people backup their user presets to a card before upgrading (always a good idea). Apologies to those for whom this advice comes too late.

      We upgraded the checksum tests in 3.5, so these errors are probably real. The battery becomes suspect if you perform a Setup/Utility/FIX and then power down overnight. If the error is back in the morning, this would point to a bad battery (easy enough to change).

      The battery should last many years, so if you have to change it too often, this would point to a hardware issue that is draining the battery.

        Hi,. I too have the Checksum error on my Eclipse version 4.01, I did change the battery today while the unit was switched on and while it has saved my personal settings I still have the “Internal Checksum Error, press any key to continue” notification after its initialised, when I press any key the unit works as it should, as I’m in the UK, a long way away from you I’m worried that there may not be a “Fix” without returning the unit to you ?  Any suggestions ?

      when i got my checksum error after upgrading to v4, i did a utility> fix and it hasn't returned (yet), so i guess my battery is fine. i know that's only a temporary solution, so it will return . when it does, i'll do a clear setup and reload the setup i created and saved after upgrading and see how long that lasts

      Hi Simeon,

      If you received another checksum in a relatively short period from the last message, then it may be related to the battery itself. One way of confirming this would be to test the voltage of the battery. If it is less than 2.8v it would require replacing.       thanks. i don't have a tester, so i think il just replace the battery to be on the safe side. any info about what sort of battery is needed and i can try and source one here in the UK

      cool, thanks.
      will removing the existing battery clear the internal memory? i'm guessing
      i shouldn't leave the unit connected to the mains, in case i electrocute
      myself…

      Replacing the battery with the unit not powered on will most likely result with the loss of your
      user-saved presets; thus you should back any user presets you don't want to loose. It is possible to change the battery while the unit is powered on and connected to mains, and this procedure would prevent the loss of user-saved presets. I however don't advise this, but some people do actually do this.

      just for info – i replaced the internal battery as suggested and i havn't had a checksum error since (and that included leaving it off for a week while i was on vacation). thanks chaps!

      Look at "Fixing and Initializing Internal Memory" on UM p.53 to clear the bad checksum message.

      If it comes back later, change the battery again. If this does not fix it, or it comes back immediately, you have a hardware fault.

      If you actually do have a hardware fault, it has to go for service – there is no magic fix. It can be a bad memory chip, or faulty parts in the shutdown circuitry.

      Our UK distributor should be able to fix it – it should not have to go back to the US.

      Hi Nick rose, OK I assume that “Fixing and initialsing the internal memory” will lose me my presets ?  So before I do that I assume that I will need to first load my presets on a Flash Card, as I’ve never done this before, and before I make a mistake and lose them, I really need a walk through from the start to the re-load back from the Flash card.

      I did replace the correct Battery and still had the Checksum error, so intialising is the next step.  I have a new Sand disk 256 Flash card at the ready but I’m panick stricken at atempting to do this without any step by step instructions, is there any chance you can help or anyone who’s done it before ?

      Thank you in anticipation  ( From a Computer dummy, Lol )
