Related question, I've noticed that some parameters have zipper noise or kind of clicking when changing the values (e.g. frequncy for band pass) – is this expected behaviour and these aren't designed for automation and there'd be another Algo with smoother operation?
This is the case for many (most?) of the algorithms that came from the H8000. The parameters for these algorithms generally aren't declicked/smoothed well enough for automation and unfortunately there's no generic way to make that happen. However, the algorithms developed subsequently (including those derived from the H9) should be smoothly responsive without artifacts.
Are there specific algorithms you have in mind? Many H8000 algorithms do have later counterparts but not all.
