I use MADI with worclock as the sync source and it works well. It sounds.like your MOTU isn’t synced, or there is a wordclock cable or termination issue.
Whatever is on the other end of the MADI cable also needs to be synced to the same clock source as the H9000.
My RME UFX3 is my masterclock. The MADIface, KSP8, H9000, MaxxBCL, 01x, Scarlett, Babyface all sync to the UFX3. Wordclock is the sync source for everything except the 01x and Babyface, which don’t have wordclock ports. The Babyface syncs to ADAT via the H9000 and the 01x via AES/EBU from the UFX3
