      Hello,

I have an H8000fw and it's ports are firewire 400., but my macbook pro only has a firewire 800 port. Is it ok to use an adapter? I've read people saying online that in general firewire 800 is backwards compatible, with the adapter, but I wanted to make sure!

      Thanks!

You should be able to use an adaptor. Probably a 9 pin to 6 pin type.

Yes I bought a cable from Apple with one 400 and 800 firewire. But it works as if both were 400. check apple store for example.

If you connect a FW400 device to a FW800 port of another device, using an adaptor or conversion cable, you get FW400 performance. The adaptor won't "morph" 400 m/bits into 800 m/bits performance.

      best
