Using only 4 ADATs

I intend to use the H8000fw as 2 separate machines (DSP A and DSP B) and use them as hardware inserts in Protools. I intend on using the ADAT ports but these give me 8 in/8 out when I only want 4in/4 out. What happens to the remaining 4 in/4 out if I'm only using stereo effects for both DSP A and DSP B? Do I lose some of the effect or are they somehow muted or 'dead'?

ADAT is an 8 channel format. If you don't route to any of these channels they will (I think) be muted.

Thanks. So what happens when I load a 4 in/ 4 out effect? Will I get the full effect in stereo or will I lose the effect since I'm only using 2 outs for DSP A and 2 for DSP B

Depends on the effect and the routing. You could always route 4 effect outputs to 8 ADAT if you need them all to be active.
