For the past three months, I have been using my H90 for everything other than delays, but since I started considering removing Volante from my setup, I focused on the delays today. I had great results with Bouquet, Tape Echo and Mod Delay but struggled with Head Space. The noise floor is just crazy! I took great care for my rig to be silent, and I have no added noise with anything until I load Head Space algo. It’s bad enough on the Clean channel but unbearable on the drive. The noise is slowly fading in once I load the algo and slowly fading out when I start playing. Is this a known issue? What am I doing wrong? I like the Head Space, and I want to give it more focus and finally ditch the Volante (lack of software kills me; I was too patient for the past three years; you guys moan on no Bluetooth with H90? Play Strymon lol). I’m ok if this is just the software issue due to be fixed with the next software upgrade, but I just want to double-check if it’s only me or a global issue.

Hi turretboard,
We’re glad to hear you’re enjoying the delay algorithms on the H90 and we’re extremely proud of Head Space. As the description says, it’s an authentic emulation of classic tape delays that lets you control Wow and Flutter, Drive, Hiss, and Filter controls so you can make it sound like a machine that’s come fresh from the factory into one that just got dug up from the deepest, dustiest corners of the gear closet.
Is it possible you’re using a preset with the Hiss parameter all the way up?

Thank Joe for replying so quickly
With all fairness, I just flew trough stock algos and I got this (other factory algos noise levels also shown for comparison):

Since I posted above, I also found this thread;
AFAIK, there is no resolution to date. The HeadSpace is head and shoulders above my Volante, and I would LOOOOVE being able to use it in my setlist.

So weird! I am not experiencing this either. It’s nice and quiet (unless you dial up the Tape Hiss). I also decided to spring for this pedal because of the HeadSpace and InstantPhaser algorithms, and I replaced a Strymon Volante and Sovtek Small Stone (which I loved very much).

Are you in dual mode with your H90, if you don’t mind me asking? Maybe it’s routing-dependent? It would be good news if that’s the case; not the worst-case scenario I were worrying about in the White Noise thread linked above. I hope it will get resolved. I was hoping to replace my Volante with a second H90, but for as long as this is an issue, I won’t. I have sent an email to Eventide as advised in the other thread, but so far, crickets

I’m starting to think it’s settings-dependent. That is, some particular combinations of parameter values combine to create the phantom noise. For example, I sent in a brief video of that Program I referenced in the White Noise thread, using similar comparisons shown in the video above.
Then last night, I was actually looking for a noise source to process with a synth. I couldn’t get the same level of noise I was after, even with dialing up the Tape Hiss to 10.0. Puzzling, to say the least. Insert Mode here, FWIW.

I could reduce noise by playing with gain controls, but the delay character lost balls, so I can’t see it as a resolution. I still want to see if a change in routing type will fix it, but I was busy with work the past week, so I couldn’t even touch my guitars. I’m not ready to give up on H90; I know it is a new unit, and issues can happen, but if they all keep being ignored by Eventide, I will come back to line 6 and never look back again on any Eventide product. Ignoring issues is how you lose your customer base. I can live with small latency when changing presets, I can live with no Antivirus software to be able to link my H90 to the Control app, and I can live with no PC/Android Bluetooth support, but I just can’t stand the noise. I took so much care to reduce the noise level in my rig to non-existent, and I won’t keep an expensive unit injecting a humongous noise back into my signal route.

I re-routed my setup as a send/receive on a mixer with Kill Dry = On in Global and I think I got a repro of this.
I have a program with HeadSpace going into Shimmer. Program and Preset A are both set to Kill Dry = Global. With Preset B (Shimmer) also set to Kill Dry = Global I do not hear any noise. But when I change it to Off (so that I can properly hear the dry portion of Preset A — because of another bug, see this thread: https://www.eventideaudio.com/forums/topic/kill-dry-behaviour-on-algorithm-a-in-series/), I start hearing a significant amount of noise. Weirdly, the noise seems to only be present when there is no input signal, when I play something on the input, the noise tapers off, and fades back in as the input level dies down. (Does that mean there is some automatic gain adjustment happening there somewhere?)

Hello,
We’ve addressed the noise issue in Head Space in the latest 1.8.5 update. You should now find that when the Hiss parameter is at 0 there should be no extra noise introduced.
Please update your H90 and let us know if this resolves the issue.
Thanks for your patience.
